Hi there and thanks for visiting our site! Flower City Pickers has been around for over two and a half years operating out of Rochester's Public Market. This year we've started to collect food on Tuesdays and Thursdays in addition to our regular Saturdays. Because of this, we are in need of a few core volunteers, as well as, those interested in joining our board of trustees!
What is a core volunteer? Someone who we can rely on a weekly basis. Someone who we can train to help coordinate other volunteers and properly store equipment. This person(s) will come early and stay late to help ensure that all produce is correctly distributed to strive towards our zero waste goal.
FCP has a board of directors and a board of trustees. These folks aren't necessarily at the market getting their hands dirty, but are involved in the behind the scenes involvement needed to keep FCP moving strong. There are positions available in many areas. If you have many skills in an area and think you'd be a good fit, we can even make room for you! Please contact Khoury (email@example.com) for more information.
FCP has monthly meetings open to all to share ideas and concerns. Check out our calendar page for more information.
Our award-winning film Pickers will be shown tonight at the market! Don't miss it!
Have you taken a look at our new calendar page? If so, you would have noticed our upcoming event at Root 31! This Thursday, from 6pm till 9pm, Root 31 will be having a time capsule tasting and bottle share where they will also be corking brought in bottles with a fee of $5 that goes directly to us Pickers!
Located at 3349 Monroe Avenue Pittsford, NY 14618
They say: "You are invited to join Root 31 Cafe and Eatery for a great night of rare beers and great tastings. We will be tapping vintage cellared kegs from 2015 of Rodenbach, Stone Xocoveza and Evil Twin Imperial Doughnut Break. Remarkable Liquids will be donating glassware and some rare bottles (Grimm Rainbow Dome, Two Roads 2 Juicy) to be raffled off. The proceeds, along with the $5 corkage fee on all outside bottles will be donated to Flower City Pickers, a local not-for-profit focused on reducing food waste."
We say: Come join us! Come support this awesome establishment that has fresh ingredients and a zero waste policy while also supporting yours truly, Flower City Pickers!!! Bring your home-made wine, beer, cider, whatever to get corked! We'll have a table set up where you can learn more about us and how both FCP and Root31 have a zero waste policy.
Our monthly board meeting is going to be this coming up Monday, June 12th starting at our new time of 6pm. Refreshments will be provided! Please come out and participate-all are welcome and encouraged to come.
Dear Flower City Picker’s volunteers and board members,
IMPORTANT INFORMATION! Please read fully! At the bottom is an explanation of newly listed guidelines and Q&A’s. Feel free to message us with comments or questions! Remember that our meetings are always open to the public. Thanks much!
Summer is here! With added rays of sunshine comes added work for us. More vendors will be participating at the Rochester Public Market, which means, our amount of collections goes up in volume. Because of this, there are a few needed adjustments to our workspace in order to run more smoothly with our future in mind. We also have a strong need for more active participants and are forming Action Teams (explained further below)! Board positions are also available.
